Sometimes the days feel long. I don’t struggle with depression, but sometimes I just feel sad; I feel like nothing ever is going to change. I think that is only natural for people to feel this way. This is when I need to press into God. It is a comfort to know that he is always with me; that he will never leave me.
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b
I cannot remember a time when I didn’t think God was with me. It was the summber between my 8th & 9th grade year when a tornado warning had been issued. My dad spotted the rotating clouds in the sky and told all of us to head to the basement in our southern Minnesota home. We had been down there a few minutes when I remember my new Bible that is in my second floor room. Despite my parents telling me to stay put I just needed to get my Bible. I ran up two flights of stairs with the wind howling, grabbed my Bible and headed back to the basement. It was the one thing I didn’t want to lose; my greatest possession.
I have always felt close to God and I know he is close to me, even when I feel alone. Beside reading my Bible almost daily, there are two other books that have been meaningful in my life. The first, My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers. I have probably read through it three times. The daily devotional is so insightful and the more I grow in my relationship with God, the more I get out of the words penned in the book. The second, is On The Anvil by Max Lucado. It is a book of short stories that have had an impact on shaping my life.
I love to read and that helps keep my mind from drifting towards loneliness or despair. I would love to hear what books have been meaningful to you in your faith development.
In His Hands,
