There are times in life where circumstances can be overwhelming and we question everything about our lives and existence.  We are going through life’s storms and are tired.  Sometimes we feel like giving up.  We come to God and ask why this? Why me?  Why now? And then we wait.  God says in his word,

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.  Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”  Psalm 143:8

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”  Psalm 20:7

We are to put our trust in God – trust him to watch over our children and protect their hearts, trust him in our relationships, trust him to take care of our families, trust him with our finances, trust him with our work situations or absence of one, trust him with all things.  But trusting him can be hard when we allow the circumstances of our lives dictate our response to living.

My wife and I started a photography business in 2009 to help supplement the loss of my income while I’ve been looking for work these past four years.  I have met with human resource people and interviewed for jobs that I was told I was overqualified for, under qualified for or even told that I would get bored with it so they offered it to someone else.  I’ve been trying to discern what God is telling me; where he is leading me.  And honestly, I find myself sometimes stumped to find an answer.

However, every time I feel like I can’t go another step, I hear God’s voice telling me to trust him.  He fills me with confidence that he is there and that there is nothing to fear.  He fills me with faith when I am lacking.  He puts his arms around me and makes me aware of his great love for me through his Holy Spirit.  One of my favorite verses comes from when my mom was dying of cancer and she quoted Isaiah as I stood at her bedside.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you.  I will help you.  I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10

I find comfort in these words when I am afraid and get discouraged.  Listen to what God; the Creator of the universe says to me, “I will strengthen you. I will help you.  I will uphold you…”  I need these things…I need God.  I realize that many people think it is silly to trust God, but I don’t because I know he can do great and mighty things.  I have read the stories of deliverance in the Bible; the miraculous things God has done for those who believe in his Son, Jesus.

Jesus came into this world, lived a sinless life, bore our sins on the cross and died for them; he arose on the third day and ascended into heaven.  For those who believe in Jesus, God the Father has given them eternal life.  If God sent his only Son, Jesus, to do all this for me when I didn’t deserve it, will he not care for all the circumstances of my life?  I can trust him in all things because he has done everything he has said he will do and he cares deeply for each one of his children.

So, today I say to you – I trust God and know that he has a plan for me.  I lay my life, my family’s lives, and my circumstances in his hands and know that he will work in all things for the good of those who love him.   For those of you who don’t believe, it is my desire that my life will be a testimony of God’s grace and riches; not so that I can boast, but so that you can see God’s work and believe in him too.  I TRUST IN HIM WITH EVERYTHING!

  1. Great (and not always easy) look at trust! Easy to trust when everything going great….not always so easy when we have to trust one minute at a time! Thanks for being open and honest, Dale!

    1. I think I’m coming close to being an expert…not really, but it sure has been a long road. Just praying I can see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. Steve Chestnut, one of our pastors, said yesterday in his message, “We can ‘grow’ through or just ‘go’ through our circumstances.” I like that one a lot. Thanks for your encouragement.
